Complete set of 24 etchings concerning the floods of 1855. The drawings were made at the spot by members of Arti et Amicitia in Amsterdam. The floods of 1855 were caused by broken dikes in the middle of the Netherlands on 5 March 1855. The Gelderse Vallei and het Land van Maas en Waal were stricken but the water reached a large part of the Netherlands. 13 lives were lost. In 19th century folder (Eigen Haard premie-album). All plates 34x40cm, etchings 14x23cm appr., some edges are crumbling, some soiling and staining. On some plates the location and name of the maker are added in pencil: Lith, Ch. Rochussen, Kessel by G.A. Roth, H.A. van Trigt/P.L. Dubourg, Willem Gruyter, Sorensen, E. Koster. Titlepage composition by Ch. Rochussen "naar eene schets van ... H.A. van Trigt". Etching by Ch. Rochussen. Muller listst all artists and the locations. From the library of Prof. Dr. G.P. van de Ven. Gerard van de Ven (1941-2017) was a prominent Dutch scholar, author and professor at the Universiteit van Amsterdam. He was specialised in waterstaatsgeschiedenis (history of water management) and historical geography. He wrote many books, articles and contributed to many publications. Muller (Historieplaten) 7225.
