An item unique in the trade, it being a SIGNED and INSCRIBED item in Fine condition and in First Edition state, a collection of poems by Bill Berkson, William Craig Berkson (August 30, 1939 – June 16, 2016), who was "an American poet, critic, and teacher who was active in the art and literary worlds from his early twenties on" (Wikipedia), born in New York City, a child of Manhattan's Upper East Side. He studied under Kenneth Koch in Poetry at the New School for Social Research then at Columbia University and then at New York University's Institute of Fine Arts. Measures 9 1/4" x 7 1/4" tall and wide, bound in pictorial paper over boards with Colton Jacobsen's illustration of an astronaut on a manila folder to front cover. Virtually pristine, tightly bound, clean, unmarked interior. Graphite illustrations are drawn directly into typewritten text. SIGNED and INSCRIBED by Bill Berkson to the powerhouse couple, feminist art historian Whitney Chadwick and hyperrealist painter Robert Bechtle. "To Whitney and Bob, with love from the 'real' Bill, May 1, 2008. Published the year Berkson retired from San Francisco Art Institute. Acquired from their personal library. The colophon notes that Bill was written in 1980 or thereabouts, and Colton Jacobsen did the drawings in 2006-2007.
