Horizontal center fold present, with chipping and tearing to the front cover along its entire length, rendering it into two halves. Some chipping and tearing along the extremities. A phototype printing of 6 views of Matsushima in Japan by Ogawa Kazumasa, a Japanese photographer who was an early pioneer in photomechanical printing and photography in late 19th century Japan. POOR condition. Entire piece SEPARATED and DETACHED, with covers and photos each loose. Tissue guards attached to the inside covers, with some guards missing, Heavy chipping, creasing, and tearing along the extremities of the covers, with minor chipping and tearing along the photo plates. Covers with minor soiling and rubbing. General toning. Tissue guards rather worn and brittle, with creasing and loss. Faint dampstaining along the left edge of the plates. Light scattered soiling. Apparent staple holes along the right edge of all pages. Paper toned in the interior. Poor .

Philadelphia, Rau Art Studios, Inc. Publisher. Unbound. no date, presumed late 1800s, early 1900s. 4 by 3 ¼ inches. Black and white photo. A lantern slide produced by American photographer William H. Rau. Rau traveled extensively, producing stereo cards and lantern slides of his trips, and depicting events such as presidential inaugurations, the World's Fair, etc. According to Rau, lantern slides were the most pleasurable form of photography for him. Much of his work is held in the Smithsonian, and his work has been exhibited in several museums. This slide depicts a Native American in Montana, presumably from the Crow tribe, wrapped in a blanket. GOOD condition. Paper label with title MISSING a portion, resulting in some loss of explanatory text. Some scuffing, fading and soiling to the glass. Good .

A monograph on the photography of August Sander, mostly visual, but with a brief essay on his life and work at the beginning. This focuses on his landscape photography. Sander was an influential German photographer in the early 20th century, known for his portraiture. Many of his photos document the lives of Germans during the Weimar Republic. Sander lived in Germany during the Nazi regime, with his work restricted and his book 'Face of our Time' seized by the government in 1936. VERY GOOD condition. Minor soiling, fading and scuffing to the jacket, with a faint area of discoloration to the upper rear jacket. Light fading and edgewear to the book. Very Good/Very Good.
