 R P I F Senault, De L&Apos;Usage Des Passion
R P I F Senault
De L&Apos;Usage Des Passion
Amsterdam , Jean de Ravesteyn, 1668. Leather. A very interesting book on philosophy from the 17th century. The central argument of Senault's work follows on from the preachings of St Augustine in that the only passion capable of moving man is love. Love itself takes on a myriad of passions. Senault argues in this work, that Original Sin is responsible for the disorder of man's emotions. His ultimate argument is that only combined grace and passion can redeem mankind. Written by Jean Francis Senault (1599-1672), the son of Pierre Senault who was the king's secretary. Jean Renault was a French Augustine philosopher and a preacher. In 1618, he joined the Jesus Oratory. Senault was an enigmatic preacher, studying theology for fifteen years. His well-written sermons were hugely popualr amongst the crowds he preached to.
