The first edition of this work, published in a limited edition of five hundred copies, the present no. 67; a very scarce work held by six institutional libraries only. Edited and compiled for 'The Sportsman' by Arthur W. Coaten, with contributions by William and F. Baillie-Grohman, William Scarth Dixon. John Skipworth Gibbons, et al. A large paper volume, exploring from the early history of British and Irish hunting with accounts of foxhounds, staghounds, beagles, harriers, basset-hounds, hunters and their breeding, and more. An impressive sporting work of Great Britain. Bound in a full straight up grain morocco with gilt hound blind stamp embossed to front board.Illustrated with numerous photographic illustrations in black and white in text and twenty-three full page plates in photogravure. Collated, all plates present, however bound without pp.159-176. In a full straight up grain morocco binding, rebacked with five raised bands, hound embossing in gilt to spine. Externally sound with chipping and shelf wear, light scuffing to boards and spine, lightly marked. Cazenove bookplate to front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Light spotting to tissue guards and occasional leaves of plates, otherwise pages bright and clean. Illustrated with numerous photographic illustrations in black and white in text and twenty-three full page plates in photogravure. Collated, lacking pp. 156-179, all plates bound in and present.
