Handsomely rebound in half speckled calf with vellum corners. An insightful work on hunting methods, tips, and opinions, written as a series of letters to a friend, a casual style. A perceptive look into eighteenth-century hunting practices. Written by Dorset-based landowner and hunting enthusiast, Sir Peter Beckford (1740-1811). He was a British landowner, hunstman, writer and patron. He wrote several works on his thoughts of hunting. Containing a beautiful illustrated frontispiece and two plates to the rear depicting a hunting lodge, as called for.This copy came from the library at Julians Park, Hertfordshire, the previous home of Audrey Pleydell-Bouverie (1902-1968). She was an English socialite and through her mother was the illegitimate granddaughter of King Edward VII.ESTC Citation No. T93430 Handsomely rebound in speckled calf with vellum to the corners and marbled boards. Externally, very smart, with some minor shelf wear only. Internally, hinges are strained but firm. Evidence of prior tape repairs to the pastedowns and free-endpapers. In Swedish. An uncommon work on the 1928 Amsterdam Olympic games written by Swedish water polo player, journalist, and sports official Erik Bergvall. Published in Swedish, with numerous photographs and illustrations. After winning a bronze medal in water polo in the 1908 Summer games, Bergvall joined several Swedish sporting bodies, and became the chief compiler and editor of reports for the Swedish Olympic Committee between 1920 and 1948. In this attractive volume, Bergvall discusses Swedish preparations for the Amsterdam Olympiad, as well as the tournament's opening ceremony, referees, the sports, as well as touching on the winter games. The 1928 Olympics was significant as it was the first time the parade of nations started with Greece and ended with the host country, as is now tradition. The first edition of this work concerning the sporting travels of Grantley Berkeley, English sportsman. Recounting the author's hunting journey to the Western prairies, sharing impressions, experiences, and recollections of his travels in the American West. Illustrated with seven full page plates and a vignette to the title page, lacking one plate. With Draycot House bookplate on leather to the front pastedown, medieval manor largely re-modelled by the Long family over the years, and in 1864 after Lord Cowley's inheritance. It was demolished in 1952-4.  From the library at Julian Park, Hertfordshire, belonging to Audrey Pleydell-Bouverie. Audrey was the youngest daughter of an Anglo-American lumber and steel millionaire, sister to Edward James, a key figure in the Surrealist movement, and the illegitimate granddaughter of King Edward VII. She was an English socialite known for her beauty and for charming various wealthy men, she was included in The Book of Beauty by Cecil Beaton. A patron of the arts, she assisted Viscount Carlow financially in the publication of limited editions of numerous works by leading literary figures such as T E Lawrence, James Joyce, Wyndham Lewis, and others. A hedonistic pursuer, she was recognised as one of the 'Bright Young Things&apos.  In a half calf binding over marbled boards and edges, with new marbled endpapers. Externally sound with minor shelf wear and a touch of edge wear, minor chipping and some rubbing to the boards and spine. With Draycot House bookplate on leather to the front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. With a minor faint spotting to the first and last few leaves, otherwise the pages are bright and clean throughout.
