The half title page is present. In this edition, the key for identifying hexigrams is present, but is not a folding plate. In the 2nd century BC, the I Ching became one of the 'Five Classics', regarding Confucianism, and has since become a famous and widely-studied text for the basis of divination across the world. Its popularity resurfaced during the 1960s counterculture period, and was referenced and promoted by popular figures such as Joni Mitchell, The Beatles, and Jorge Luis Borges. This edition contains the Richard Wilhelm translation, rendered into English by Cary F. Baynes. With a foreword by Carl Jung (1875-1961), the famous psychiatrist who founded analytical psychology, and a preface to the third edition by Hellmut Wilhelm (1905-1990), an expert on the I Ching. Vincent N. turvey was a British clairvoyant and engineer, known for his work on parapsychology. The present work was undertaken after the author suffered from serious health issued, and gave up his profession as engineer in favour of the occult and yoga, and it described his clairvoyant and out-of-body experiences. A fascinating early study of seership. Initially published in 1911, this is a new edition of 1940, complete in its unclipped dust wrapper. A scarce work in all edition, rarely found on the market. London, Longmans, Green, Reader and Dyer, 1871. First edition. Cloth. The first and only edition of this scarce report on spiritualism by the London Dialectical Society. The first edition of this report of the London Dialectical society into the claims of spiritualism. The society were formed in 1867 to debate questions of ethics, metaphysics and theology.  In 1869 the London Dialectical Society formed a committee appointing 33 members whose aim was to investigate the phenomena alleged to be spiritual manifestations and to create a report. This book is the report from that investigation. With correspondence to the society including letters from Thomas Huxley, who rejected involvement as 'if any body would endow me with the faculty of listening to the chatter of old women and curates in the nearest cathedral town, I should decline the privilege, having better things to do&apos.   Other rejections declining involvement were from G H Lewes and Lord Lytton.  Notable members of the society include Edward William Cox, Charles Maurice Davies, and Alfred Russel Wallace. The committee members attended seances and reported their findings. A scarce work, which provides an insight into attitudes towards spiritualism at the end of the nineteenth century.  In the publisher's original cloth binding. Amsterdam, Apud Joannem Blaev, 1668. Leather. A single volume of Gehrard Voss's (1577-1649) intriguing catalogue of pre-Christian paganism. Scarce. Last copy seen in 1978. Voss was educated at Leyden, where he developed a friendship with the famous Hugo Grotius. He was made Regent of the States-General for Leyden in 1615, but had to resign in 1619 thanks to controversy brought on by a theological work published the preceding year. Voss went on to become professor of history at Leyden and eventually at the Athaneum in Amsterdam; having twice turned down offers of positions at Cambridge. In the Theologia Gentili, Voss draws upon the earlier word De Diis Syris in an exploration of pre-Christian religious practice. The three books contained within this volume cover the origin, development, worship, and idols of the Pagan world. Externally, bound in old calf with rubbing and loss of calf to corners of boards and joints. Front hinge has failed with board and preliminary pages detached. Some chipping to spine, with wear to head and tail. Internally, remaining rear hinge tender but pages remain firmly bound. The first edition of this work. The Lodge of Hengist is lodge no 195 and was consecrated 23 November 1770.
