Savannah, Beehive, (1969), 3rd ed 1977. 216pp, plans and drawings, many photos. Cloth. 27x29. Good. Excellent visual source on Oglethorpe's planned town, founded 1734-6. Savannah, with its unrivalled series of squares, had considerable influence on early 19th century model community ideas in Britain. For instance J. S. Buckingham visited it and utilized its basic layout pattern in his "Victoria" scheme (see next section).

A highly important study with much out-of-the-way information, particularly on social & housing aspects of the 19th century model communities. These include Port Sunlight, Bournville, Aintree, Pullman, Zion City, Le Creusot, the Krupp Colonies etc.. Author was an American writer.
