ROBERTS, DAVID
Something Wicked - a Murder Mystery Featuring Lord Edward Corinth and Verity Browne
New York, Carroll and Graf. 2007, First Edition. (ISBN: 0786720484). Hard Cover, 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. An As New copy with an As New dustjacket which is not price clipped. First US edition. 275 pages. Journalist Verity Browne comes home from an assignment in Prague with suspected tuberculosis. The only cure is deemed to be rest and a healthy diet so her anxious fiance, Lord Edward Corinth, arranges for her to stay at a private clinic in Henley-on-Thames. This is convenient for Edward as he can keep an eye on Verity while investigating the sadistic murder of his dentist, Eric Silver, whose death has a Henley connection. Silver had recently confided in Edward that he suspected three elderly patients of his had been murdered: an old general appeared to have drunk himself to death with a fine bottle of Clos des Mouches, A lady was poisoned by a new insecticide she was trying, and a beekeeper was stung to death by his bees. All three lived near Henley. So Edward goes to stay with an old friend who has just inherited a title and a property in the pretty town on the Thames and begins to follow the trail. His macabre investigation comes to a thrilling climax during the festivities for what many fear will be the last Henley Royal Regatta before the inevitable onset of war. L. As New/As New.
