Pocket Central London Railway Map, 1912.
London, Central London Railway. 1912. No Binding. Map/Print, 1912, Good Condition, Central London (Tube) Railway Map, 28,6 x 35,5 cm This is a geographic style map on paper, which shows the route of the Central London Railway. All the Underground lines are shown in their entirety except the District Railway after South Ealing, Alperton, Parsons Green and Whitechapel Stations, and the Metropolitan Railway between Wembley Park and Uxbridge. Various colours are used to show the different underground lines and the Central London Railway line is overprinted with a thick red line. Circles are used to mark the site of stations and where there are interchanges either the circle is printed with the colour of both lines or a double headed arrow is printed which links the two lines. At each end of the Central London Railway line there is a large red circle which has information on the main line interchange at that station. The names of the stations at each end, Ealing Broadway and Liverpool Street are overprinted in large black letters above each of the interchange circles. All station names are printed in black, with the Central London Railway station names in a larger font than those on the other Underground lines. One extension is shown on this map, a red line with white bars is used to show the Central London Railway extension from Wood Lane to Ealing Broadway. Geographical features such as parks, rivers and main line railway lines are printed in various colours on a grey background, and tramways routes are marked with a broken white line. The exhibition sites at Shepherd's Bush, Olympia and Earls Court are marked in white. This map has a brown border with the map title at the top. There is a reference key showing the different line colours, as well as a key to the interchange symbols. The reverse is coloured in red and green and includes the times of first and last trains, a list of main line railway termini, a list of places of interest, subway connections, ticketing details, an advert for the Parcels Service and special notices and conditions of travel. Very Good.

Map of the River Thames: Joseph Mears Launches & Motors, "Hirer of Steam Launches and Charabancs (Pneumatic Tyres)
London, George Philip & Son Ltd. 1914. Soft cover. Map/Print, c.1914, Very Good Condition, Format: 18.5 x 11cm, Booklet containing 15 Coloured Maps Guide to the river Thames from Westminster Bridge to Cirencester Joseph Mears was one of the main operators on the Thames up from 1907 until the Second World War. In 1907, he acquired the business of the Thames Electric & Motor Launch Co at Eel Pie Island. His headquarters were at Richmond and he set about building up the largest fleet of passenger launches on the Thames. Boats acquired included The Victory, Halcian and England, which he put into service between Westminster and Hampton Court in competition with the large paddle steamer Queen Elizabeth (2) (which he later acquired in 1913). In 1908, Joseph Mears bought the first of nine large launches built for him by Salter Brothers, the Viscount of 106ft and 395 passengers. She was one of the largest launches of the middle Thames when built. In 1911, Joseph Mears had the similarly-sized Connaught built, also by Salter Brothers. She had a steel hull and tunnel stern (developed to protect the screw from weeds and other obstruction). In 1913, Mears bought the large paddle steamer Queen Elizabeth (2), which was kept until 1917, and the Duke of York from Harry Tagg. In the same year, the Viking was added to the fleet, and the Royalty was ordered from Salter Brothers. In the spring of 1914, the Princess Beatrice was purchased from Harry Tagg. Hurlingham and Kingwood arrived from Salters yard in 1915. His Majesty was purchased from Bonds of Maidenhead in 1917. Very Good.
