Cassell & Company, 1891., A typical Victorian book of adventurous deeds and daring, such as mountain climbers, elephant hunters, man-eating tigers, shipwrecks and lifeboat men, and Nelson's final hours at the Battle of Trafalgar. 760 pages plus 8 page catalogue of Cassell's books, priced from 1d (one penny) to £21. About 150 black & white illustrations. The enspapers are dark brown, and the f.e.p. may have been split or weak, then glued, as the hinge now shows white. The attractive binding is a dark teal blue, with gold title & lettering, a picture in gold of 2 men pulling on a rope attached to a crocodile in some water. 10¼" x 7". Pages 131 to 142 have started to become loose at the bottom where the stitching is loose. Top & bottom of spine are worn, the corners are bumped & worn, the cover is slightly marked in places.
