The Galaxy: An Illustrated Magazine of Entertaining Reading, Vol. XVII, January, 1874, to July 1874
New York, Sheldon and Company, 1874. First Edition. Hardcover. Size: 8vo 8" - 9" tall. The Galaxy Magazine, or The Galaxy (subtitled "an illustrated magazine of entertaining reading") was an American monthly magazine founded by William Conant Church (who had been a war correspondent during the Civil War) and his brother Francis P. The magazine ran from 1866 until when Sheldon and Company gained financial control over the magazine, and it merged with the Atlantic Monthly in 1878. Notable contributors to the magazine early on include Mark Twain, Anthony Trollope, Oliver Wendell Holmes, Walt Whitman and Henry James. Custer (several contributions from Life on the Plains), Kate Putname Osgood, and others. 724 pp., all in.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards. . . . Good

New York, Perry Mason Company, 1902. First Edition. Hardcover. Size: Folio - over 12 - 15" tall. Seldom have I shuddered so in excitement upon acquisition of an item and contemplated its collation. The story ends, "And Never Travel Alone!" An absolutely gorgeous collection of a half-year's worth of weekly issues of this influential newspaper-like magazine for "youth," which means age 12 on up. Comprises issues for the following dates, without interruption: January 2; January 9; January 16; January 23; January 30; February 6; February 13; February 20; February 27; March 6; March 13; March 20; March 27; April 3; April 10; April 17; April 24; May 1; May 8; May 15; May 22; May 29; June 5; June 12; June 19; June 26.
