Three scarce volumes of lists regarding the British Navy in the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. Disbound and removed from larger almanacks and registers from their respective years, each volume is loosely inserted in paper wraps, with neat handwritten titles.Present here are twenty-one page of Navy lists for 1769, discussing officer pay, and the names of captains, admirals, masters and commanders, and lieutenants.The 1774 Navy list consists of twenty-seven pages detailing the Admiralty-Office, Pay-Office, Navy Office, officers and admirals, the names of new ships being built, and names of lieutenants.The 1803 list is composed of nineteen pages, and presents a 'list of King's ships not in commission', 'list of King's ships now in commission, a list of ships being built, the names of admirals  and captains, and the names of fifty retired lieutenants 'with the rank of commander&apos. Disbound, loosely housed in paper wraps with handwritten titles. Externally, bright. London, Printed by and for William Hone , 1820. Brochure/Pamphlet. A remarkable satirical pamphlet alluding to the Peterloo Massacre, illustrated with fifteen cuts by George Cruikshank. The Man in the Moon is a satirical pamphlet attributed to William Hone in response to the Peterloo Massacre of 1819. This is the fifteenth edition of 1820. A politically radical pamphlet, in response to the massacre of peaceful protestors for political reform. In response, the Government passed the 'Six Acts', compromising freedom of speech and quelling reformists and radical political activity. Illustrated with fifteen cuts attributed to George Cruikshank, illustrating cavalrymen attacking and killing protestors, as well as the Prince Regent, the Church, and the army as they dance hand in hand with the devil. Disbound. Externally sound with some shelf wear and some spotting to the front and rear wrap. internally, the binding is only slightly loose but firm. With the odd further ink annotation throughout the work, most concentrated between pages 35 and 40.A very scarce work, with only three records of printed copies, with the British Library, Wellcome Collection and Bristol University library each holding this work. London, W. Pople, 1820. Disbound. A very scarce transcription of this important speech delivered by one of Britain's longest serving Chancellors. In the speech Nicholas Vansittart argues for thirty eight financial resolutions, that were all passed without opposition. These two extracts from the early nineteenth century provide insight into the financial decisions of Nicholas Vansittart, 1st Baron Bexley, who was the one of the longest-serving Chancellors of the Exchequer in British history. The text opens with a transcription of the speech Vansittart delivered to the house of Commons in 1809 regarding thirty eight financial resolutions, which all passed without opposition. The final fourteen pages are comprised of a report published on June 7th 1809 discussing the questions including the amount exchequer bills fund present sessions of parliament, and the duties granted the King during the Peninsula war. The final lines to page 9 have been sliced halfway through. No author given for either extract. Disbound. Externally, generally smart. Internally, firmly bound. A very scarce work.ESTC citation number R10051.Collated, complete, with irregular pagination.An interesting pamphlet regarding the pardon of Thomas Osborne, and the trial of five lords condemned in the Popish Plot: Earl of Powis, Viscount Stafford, Lord Petre, Lord Arundel of Wardour, and Lord Bellasis.The Popish Plot was a fictitious conspiracy formed by Titus Oates, in which he alleges that there was a Catholic conspiracy to assassinate Charles II. This led to a fraught anti-Catholic hysteria in England and Scotland. At least 22 men were executed on Oates' accusations.Oates daringly accused the five Catholic Lords of being involved in the Plot, though the King saw the accusations as absurd, particularly as two of the lords, Arundell and Stafford, had not been on speaking terms for 25 years. Bound with wooden boards, the wood taken from the H.M.S Royal George. A work accounting the life of the H.M.S. Royal George, a first rate gun ship in the Royal Navy. The ship sunk in 1782, when it was anchored at Spithead to take supplies to go and relive Gibraltar. The ship sunk and lost more than eight-hundred lives. In this work, the anonymous authors recounts the sinking of this ship. The author also talks about Major-General Charles Paisley's 1839 attempted to clear the wreckage of the ships. His operation included breaking up the wreck using barrels of gunpowder. Illustrated with a frontispiece, and three plates. Collated from Copac from a copy held at the British Library, complete. In the original publisher's quarter calf with wooden boards. Externally, the front board is detached. Cracks to each board, repaired by a prior owner with tape. A couple of marks to the front board, and a small rectangle of wood removed.
