Light browning and spotting, preliminary leaves with marginal cracking and restoration, ex.-libris ‘Rodd Recte Omnia Duce Deo’, rebound in C20th half calf with marbled boards, minor wear to boards, blind motifs and gilt lettering to spine.
¶ ESTC T65176. ‘Comprising an engraved titlepage and dedication, six initial leaves of letterpress subscribers' list [complete with four in our copy], and preface; and eighteen final leaves of indexes; each plate, except 21-28 on verso only, comprises a verso and recto, giving a total of 57 leaves.’ John Blair (d. 1782), Church of England clergyman and chronologist. ‘...In the early 1750s Blair issued Proposals for Printing by Subscription, [the above work], a work he is said to have adapted from chronological tables originally devised by his Edinburgh classmate and distant relation, Hugh Blair. ¶ No. 338 of a Limited Edition of 650 Numbered Copies issued, signed by Hugh Roberts Director of the Royal Collection. A scholarly catalogue of the Crown Jewels by experts in their field with contributions from Ronald Lightbown, Shirley Bury, Arthur Grimwade, Roger Harding, Alan Jobbins, Donald Kin, Kenneth Scarratt. It contains numerous illustrations, detailed descriptions and analyses of the precious stones. Much information is derived from original research with emphasis on the history of each piece and the coronation.

Some sporadic light browning and spotting, heavy ink mark to t.p., contemporary ink annotation to verso of last blank, contemporary ownership inscriptions dated 1808 and 1807 to verso of front f.e.p. and half title, booksellers ticket to front pastedown, ex.-libris Lilian Maud Levi, marbled e.ps. and edges, upper hinge and joint cracked resulting in upper board being sl. shaken, full contemporary mottled calf with wear to corners, raised bands and dec. gilt compartments to rubbed spine with some surface cracking and without leather title label, head and tail of spine worn with some loss.
¶ J-B. Bossuet (1627-1704) was renowned as a preacher. He was born in Dijon and became bishop of Meaux. From 1670-81 he was tutor to Dauphin.
