A lovely third edition copy of this work on how to naturally decorate your house, particularly with natural decorations from the garden, written by gardening writer Shirley Hibberd with numerous colour plates. Third 'New' Edition, 'revised, corrected, enlarged&apos.In the publisher's original cloth binding. Illustrated with a colour frontispiece, a colour title page engraving, with eight other coloured plates and over two-hundred wood engravings. This is an interesting botanical and gardening work by Shirley Hibberd, which was inspired by the author's fascination with preserving living things in water through aquariums and terrariums. The author describes the purpose of this text as 'enlarging the circle of domestic pleasures' and 'quickening the observation of natural phenomena' within the home and the garden.Contents include 'Adornments of the House' and 'Adornments of the Garden', with sections such as 'The Marine Aquarium', 'The Fern Case', 'The Miniature Hothouse', 'The Pleasure Garden', and 'The Summer House&apos. Written by Shirley Hibberd, one of the most successful gardening writers of the Victorian era. The author describes many species of botany grown for both use and beauty, all of which native to Britain. This work is printed in two columns, description plants and trees grouped together by families, detailing their Latin and English names, as well as their physical description and growth.The title page is dated 1756, but this work was issued in fifty-two weekly parts between 1756 and 1757, this first edition in book form published in 1757. Compiled by important English composer and botanist, Sir John Hill.
