¶ Maria Anna Sofia Cecilia Kalogeropoulos, better known among her artists name Maria Callas : New York 2 december 1923- 16 september 1977, This American-Greek soprano especially excelled in the major roles of nineteenth-century Italian operas, especially those of Vincenzo Bellini and Giuseppe Verdi. The strength of Callas' voice lies in the dramatic presentation; she sang her parts in an extremely compelling manner and with full conviction, the impeccability of the technique clearly taking second place to the emotional impact on the listener. Her qualities were also seen in the combination of a very good stage actress and an extraordinary opera singer. Her singing technique was especially excellent in her prime, although singing teachers have always had certain points of criticism. Callas' blending of the professional with the personal, as emphatically promoted by her and her record company EMI to international news media, contributed to her enormous success. In addition, Maria Callas' voice had a rather unique timbre, making her immediately recognizable in every recording. Callas happened a few times what is a nightmare for every opera singer, namely having to cut short a performance for physical reasons. The first time this took place on January 2, 1952 in Rome. In 1965 the same thing happened to her in Paris.

¶ First curator of the Egyptian department at the Royal Museums of Art and History (RMAH), Jean Capart (1877-1947) is often regarded as the founding father of Belgian Egyptology. Besides being the one who gave its impulse and rise to the development of the Egyptian collection at the RMAH, he was at the root of many other initiatives that contributed to turn, within a few years only, the RMAH into a prominent research centre in Egyptology. Under Capart's leadership, one of the world's finest and most complete Egyptological libraries arose in Brussels at the RMAH during the first decades of the 20th century. Keeping up with pioneering practices that Capart had observed in leading-edge institutions around Europe and the USA, the museum's library rapidly housed a very large collection of books and journals about Egyptology and Egyptian archaeology along with an important photographic archive which was constituted for research purposes and academic dissemination as well as education and public outreach. During his entire career, Capart constantly invested in the development of this collection by feeding it with photos he bought from colleagues and institutions abroad, and with photos he and his collaborators took during their scientific missions and trips throughout Egypt and in museums over the world. The initial core on which this important photographic archive built up, and which counts more than 53.000 individual non-digital items today, consists of almost 7.000 high resolution historical glass plate photographic negatives dated to the first half of the 20th century. Although this large sub-collection constitutes, by its diversity and historical significance, an extremely rich source of documentation and information, it has been much neglected during the past decades, and its existence and contents remain completely undisclosed to the larger Egyptological community. Following Capart's initial ambition, the SURA project (sura being the Arabic word for 'photo' ) aims to make this highly valuable photographic collection available again to the international scientific community as well as to the public, by ensuring its conservation and by creating a fully digitised database that will be freely available online in the near future.

In A Divine Comedy, for example, he created his own version of the New Testament, and in ?The Anatomy of Beauty? he explored his fascination with classical standards of beauty and purity. In his latest project and book, ?The Bride Unveiled?, he goes a step further: he deconstructs many of these classical ideals in a surrealistic story about a cardinal and a journalist who each in the end will find their true love, after a lot of surrealistic plot turns and art references to Duchamp, Mariën, Bacon and their likes. Once bared, the veiled bride turns out to be a woman of flesh and blood, purified and marked by real life, true to life. ?The Bride Unveiled? is a long awaited delightful gem, bound in red linen, stamped in gold and finished with a gold cut. It's printed in 250 copies only, 50 of which are numbered and signed. Some 60 pictures (never published before) tell the story of a devoted cardinal and his twin brother ? the former reporter Linlin ?, each of them searching for their eternal female. The images, shot in Italy, France and Belgium, are full of humour, estheticism, narrative details, art references? and Bart's colours were never as daring as in this project.
