¶ Carl De Keyzer pose un regard contemporain sur une centaine de photographies, pour la plupart inédites, datant de la Première Guerre mondiale. En compagnie de David Van Reybrouck, il a sélectionné des négatifs sur plaques de verre glanés dans le monde entier. Des images fortes, surprenantes, qui montrent autre chose que les clichés de boue, de cratères de bombes et de cadavres de chevaux. Il les a numérisés et restaurés de façon à obtenir des tirages aussi fidèles que possible. Le livre expose ainsi, en grand format - pour la première fois -, des photographies poignantes du front occidental, notamment des images aux couleurs étonnantes. Le résultat impressionne par son actualité. Grâce à ces agrandissements, des détails qui n'étaient pas censés être révélés apparaissent au grand jour. De son côté, David Van Reybrouck propose, dans un texte interpellant, sa lecture de ces photographies et de la Grande Guerre. Il invite à commémorer 14-18 autrement et à se « réapproprier » ce conflit, loin de l'industrie du souvenir qui occulte les problèmes actuels. Il met ainsi en lumière le décalage qui existe entre les célébrations de la Grande Guerre et de ses jeunes victimes tombées au front, et le tabou qui pèse aujourd'hui autour du phénomène - alarmant - du suicide chez les jeunes. ¶ Le livre est beau, la couverture intrigue. Ce n'est pas une bande dessinee, mais un album avec des dessins splendides et des phrases profondes. Au debut, c'est blanc dans ma tete. Je ne pense a rien et ce rien parait blanc. Pareil a la page ou l'on a envie de dessiner. Ou semblable aux nuages les plus lents. J'ai un poids un milieu du cerveau ou les pensees ne passent pas. Premiers dessins sur fond blanc, un plan de moins en moins flou, on voit une main bandee. Seconde page, nous passons au fond noir qui continuera jusqu'a la fin de l'album. Les bandages de la tete laissent deviner des oreilles, chien ou chat ? L'etre se reveille. Il est dans une chambre d'hopital. Un policier l'interroge et lui apprend qu'il a ete victime d'un attentat et qu'il est un chien. Il va pouvoir retourner chez lui. ?« Chienne de vie, que fais-je dans cette ville ? On dirait que la haine commence ici ?». Il retourne dans un monde ou le voisin pourrait etre son ennemi, ou le chien domine et extermine le chat, tiens, ca titille du cote des reminiscences, un pays ou les reves de jour sont interdits ! Nous traversons des dessins qui pourraient faire penser, au ghetto de Varsovie, tout au moins comme je me l'imagine. L'angoisse et la peur suent, les regards sont fuyants. Chaque phrase de cet album est un coup de poing dans le plexus ou dans la memoire. Peu de texte, mais, il va droit au but, sans fioriture. Carl Norac, en phrases tres courtes, nous fait sentir le malaise de Rousseau, sa quete, son angoisse. Carl Norac et Stephane Poulin nous parlent de tolerance, du racisme, de la peur, de la quete et que ce soit les pages dessins ou les pages textes, l'emotion est toujours omnipresente et nous happe. La memoire blanche permet d'ecrire un nouveau livre de sa vie, de regarder les autres sans aucun a priori ni sectarisme. Oui, vraiment un tres, tres bel et bon album emprunt de beaucoup de poesie. Vous le relisez, une autre face apparait. Maintenant, il faut que je le rende a la bibliotheque, mais je l'aurais bien garde celui-la aussi. Je vous en recommande vivement la lecture.

Her tools and methods - such as film bleaching and deliberate film obstruction - are not precise and are not even geared towards a perfect representation. They often yield results like colourization, deformation or unsharpness - results she could never have predicted beforehand with any degree of certainty, because these flaws do not allow for calculation. She's not in control. She fights the material. She plans, stages and directs, but the decaying chemistry of the film and the out-of-focus lenses add their magic all by themselves. That leads to either pleasant surprises or ruined images. This battle attracts her as much as it frustrates her. She loves to create within these limitations, to try to produce the best possible image within the narrow circumstances. Luckily, she's a sucker for imperfections.

¶ Cedric Jacquet, né en 1968, a commencé une carrière en informatique après avoir obtenu une maîtrise en administration des affaires à l'ULB (Bruxelles). C'est lors d'un voyage de 6 mois de Zanzibar à Cape Town, en 1993, qu'il s'est découvert une passion pour la photographie. Quelques années plus tard, il se lance dans une carrière de photographe nature free-lance. Ses sujets de prédilection sont les oiseaux d'eau et les déserts, ses terrains favoris : les deltas de rivières et les lacs d'une grande partie de l'Europe, d'Afrique et d'Amérique Centrale et du Sud, ainsi que le Namib et l'Atacama.
