Ignoring the town clerk, police, mayoral protocol and any other reasonable argument, Mayor Harris announced the prize-winning tickets in reverse order. Riot ensued, aggrieved ticket holders and a sea of angry populace demanded fair play, and in a tide of violence they laid waste to civic property, personnel and, most worrying of all, stealing the council's unique treaure, the seven razors of Ockam. TAYLOR, CATHERINE (COMPILED BY)
Teddy Bear Stories for Grown Ups
London, Michael O'Mara. 1993, First Edition. (ISBN: 1854791230). Hard Cover, 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Ill.: Elias, Gillian. Illustrations by Gillian Elias. 23 stories by authors which include Jane Beeson, Elisabeth Beresford, Rebeca Fraser, Allan Frewin Jones, Alan Hackney, William Trevor, David Elias, Pat Rush, Dinah Lampitt. Teddy Bears for Grown Ups shows that, contrary to what might be expected, teddy bears can take a very active role in the lives of the people they love. The mutual devotion between bear and owner can lead to delightful results, as in Anne Goring's charming story 'A Friend in Need', but it can sometimes also lead them into the darker side of life, even into crime. In Pauline Macaulay's story 'Harold's Bear', a teddy provides a valuable clue in a murder mystery, while in 'Confessions of a Bad Bear' by Allan Frewin Jones, a bear is driven to desperate measures to protect the girl he loves. C3D. Fine/Fine.
