His interests lie in "radical ecology," which is not to be confused with spiking trees and slashing tires. Martell argues for "structural changes in economic systems, lifestyles . beliefs" and in many of the values we hold dear. Yet, he doesn't automatically accept all the theoretical planks of the present-day green movement. He characterizes green consumerism, for example, as "only an option for the better-off." Ecology and Society may be a bit too dry for a lay audience, but there is much here to agree and disagree with and to further debate. Used: Acceptable.
