Sponsor's Address by Professor Chaim Leib Pekeris, Head of the Department of Applied Mathematics at the Weizmann Institute of Science.IV. Lecture by Axel L Wenner-Gren - "A Layman's View of Scientific Research" V. A View of the Future by Axel L Wenner-Gren.This work discusses how science can help to change the world for the better and how technology has paved the way for people to deal with difficulties in an efficient and definite way. A major contributor to this work is Axel Wenner-Gren, who was one of the wealthiest men in the world during the 1930s. Loosely inserted is a letter from Wenner-Gren's wife addressed to Jeremy James, the adopted son of Audrey Pleydell-Bouverie. Marguerite Wenner-Gren trained as a young opera singer in Berlin. News of her talents spread to Harald Andre at the Stockholm Opera who invited her to perform in Stockholm. She found great success and it was whilst performing here that she met Axel Wenner-Gren. Following her marriage she was known to be the host of elaborate parties and gatherings. The letter is addressed 'To the Long & Late Mr Jeremy James' to the envelope. The letter is written on paper from Laboratoriegatan 10, Stockholm. This is the address of the Tillbergska Villan, a property designed by the architect Ivar Tengbom for the district chief Knut Tillberg. The building was sold to Swedish financier Axel Wenner-Gren in 1925. Since 1993 the property has housed the South Korean Embassy. The letter reads 'To one of the nicest boys I've ever met! When the old 'knuckle head' knuckles down to work - and his frail body needs a little warm up - mind your P's & Q's and your penmanship & give a thought to your great great aunt&apos. From the library at Julians Park, the former home of Audrey Pleydell-Bouverie (Audrey Evelyn James Coats, and Audrey Evelyn James Field). Pleydell-Bouverie was the youngest daughter of an Anglo-American lumber and steel millionaire. Audrey was also alleged to be the illegitimate granddaughter of King Edward VII, although she was also rumoured to be his daugher, or the lover of King Edward VIII.  She bought Julians Park in 1940 following her third marriage to the Hon Peter Pleydell-Bouverie. Audrey was a patron of the arts and it is believed that she bound several books herself, as many books from her library were stamped with her name and she owned a group of bookbinding tools. Her circle of friends included Winston Churchill, Coco Chanel and Nancy Mitford. She was featured in Cecil Beaton's 'Book of Beauty' and was regarded as one of the Bright Young Things. In a full crushed morocco binding. With a slipcase. Externally, fine. Slipcase is also fine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Fine . Ill.: Not Stated. Fine .
