Now very rubbed, corners strengthened and recent re-back. Original yellow endpapers, with inscription: "Rebecca Soames Sandon 1866". pp.4/pp.76 . Dated from the catalogue of the Osborne Collection of Early Children's Books, 1566-1910 (see p. 147) . Illustrated with 6 colour plates using Baxter process, (including the frontispiece) , signed "J.M. Kronheim & Co, London" , plus wood-engravings in the text, also, title page and text printed within ruled borders. One of the first children's books with Kronhein plates.
