(No "second edition" statement; and like most of Crane's early work, this is printed without a date.) 56 pp. Thirty-seven classic English, French, and German nursery rhymes, both words and music, including "Lucy Locket", "London Bridge", and ""Sur le Pont d'Avignon", to name but a few. All are beautifully illustrated in colors, including intricate historiated borders and 11 full-page full-color illustrations. Nearly square quarto, 17.8 x 18.5 cm. cloth-backed illustrated paper boards and decorated endpapers designed by Crane; with all edges tinted yellow. It is a bit darkened on spine and shows some negligible edgewear, but is a fresh and appealing copy overall. Clean and fresh within, though the tissue guard had adhered to the frontispiece in one spot near the inside margin and . In the original printed dust jacket - some edge chipping, split at the front fold-in, and missing spine - that advertises THE BABY'S OPERA as a companion volume. (Masse, pp. 11, 15 & 31). .

Light soil, a 2 inch closed tear at front joint, two cut-out circles of about an inch on front cover, not affecting text, light soil. Frontispiece and color plates are tipped-in on taupe paper with pale green borders, slightly age toned at edges. Frontispiece is slightly creased at left edge of plate. There are 20 plates, the last being a b/w portrait of the artist. Fairy tales, poems and songs from around the world, including Sinbad the Sailor, the Three Kings, The Story of the Bird Feng, The Real Princess (The Princess and the Pea), The Nightingale, Cinderella, Aucassin and Nicolette, Blue Beard, Jusef and Asenath and more. .
