Sturdy, attractive, tightly bound, internally clean but for previous owner's neat inscription at first free endpaper. Hardcover copy, with unbruised tips, front and rear paste-downs rendered a bit splotchy and half-toned from a laid-in note about the illustrator, but not ex-library, with neither highlighting nor underlining. Illustrated beautifully with tipped-in color plates by John Robert Monsell, born in County Kerry, Ireland, brought up in Limerick and educated in Dublin. Self-taught, he began to work for newspapers and magazines and in books of humor and for children. Married eventually to Margaret Irwin. Penned by "M.A. Titmarsh," the other pseudonym of William Makepeace Thackeray. xii, 128 pp., replete with black-and-white drawings in text and 12 color plates pasted on to brown card stock. The burgundy-colored cloth boards are clean, and the gilt lettering and designs are sharp and distinct. Protected further by stiff Mylar.
