The 1952 edition of The Dandy Monster Comic annual in quarter cloth binding. The Dandy was a British children's magazine with comics. It is one of the world's longest running and was one of the best selling comics in the UK alongside the likes of The Beano. In the 1950s their popularity peaked with sales reaching two million a week. Undated. A very scarce work.This volume contains a total of eight colourful moveable scenes, telling the fairy tale 'Little Red Riding Hood&apos.Dean & Son were a noted London-based publisher in the nineteenth century, one of the first publishers to introduce pop-up books for children. Their "living picture" books began being published in the 1860s, with the animations activated by pulling a tab and moving the pictures.Publisher's adverts to the paste downs and endpapers.'Little Red Riding Hood' is a beloved fairy tale, these illustrations showing the young Little Red in a vivid red hooded cape, and a blue dress. The tale has a long history, but was first published by Charles Perrault in his 'Histoire et Contes du Temps Passe' anthology in 1697, in which he introduced the detail of the redness of Little Red's coat.Collated; page 1 tab is a little defective but present; page 3 tab does not work; page 4 lacks the tab; page 5 tab is a little defective but present; pages 7 and 8 lack the tabs.Undated, dated from the publisher's code to the rear wrap, '15,000-5,59&apos. Der Struwwelpeter by Heinrich Hoffman is a German children's book, famous for its striking designs and hand-coloured illustrations, originally published in the original language in 1845. This is an English edition rebound in full cloth; publication date was printed on the original boards, edition is not discerned thus. Dated from Copac. One of the earliest children's works to contain visual and verbal narratives in book form, as well as a precursor to comic books. Interestingly, this book introduces Scissorman to Western literature.Containing ten stories over twenty-four hand-coloured, illustrated leaves only printed to recto; the stories are mostly about children, with a clear moral to teach good behaviour.
