After his war experiences reflected in 'I Am Lazarus', here in Dark Monarch, he shows the struggle to revive his sculptor & painter creativity. At this point in Cornwall, a phase of life, in which as he puts it, 'some of us seemed to be caught in the slip-stream of evil forces which often follow destruction'.
