The Politics of Multiculturalism a Ukrainian
Edmonton, AB: Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies Press, 2005. First Edition. Hardcover. ISBN: 1894865006. Gift notation on half-title page.; A bright, solid book. Dust jacket in Mylar jacket protector. ; Large 8vo 9" - 10" tall; 508 pages; "The book Politics of Multiculturalism is the memoir of an academic whose expertise in the education of Canadian minorities led him to take on a major political role in the Canadian multicultural movement. Born in the Ukrainian bloc settlement of east-central Alberta and educated at the universities of Alberta, Minnesota, and Harvard, Manoly R. Lupul combined the outlook of a liberal secular humanist with a conviction that modern society could be enriched by the cultural potential of ethnicity. His concern for the expansion of minority linguistic and cultural rights in Canada was sharpened by a direct encounter with the policy of Russification in Ukraine during a sabbatical leave in the late 1960s. Dr. Lupul's involvement in Canadian multiculturalism began with the drafting and passage of Alberta's first school legislation for bilingual programs (1971); similar laws were subsequently enacted in Saskatchewan and Manitoba.". Madeira Park, BC: Harbour Publishing, 1993. First Edition. Softcover. ISBN: 1550170864. Card covers show very light shelf wear. Gift notation on FFEP. ; A bright, solid book. Card covers have french flaps ; Trade PB; 6 X 0.75 X 9 inches; 165 pages; "In the 1930s, Arthur's father, the Reverend Amos William Mayse, moved the family from Winnipeg to Nanaimo. There they first fished their beloved Oyster River. Arthur's story unfolds from there, like the sweet, meandering river itself: the afternoon Arthur went from worm and spinner to real fly-fishing (with a Royal Coachman); the day he borrowed a tuft of two-toned badger bristles from Amos's shaving brush in order to tie the perfect fly; the moment on a fishing trip when Arthur and Amos, mid-estuary in hip-waders, realized suddenly they were surrounded by sharks. "He was a simple man and a good one," Arthur writes, "the best I've known." Their love of fishing, conservation, the outdoors, and each other are the stuff of a deftly understated, very moving memoir.". Very Good+ .

Only light wear to card covers with french flaps ; A bright, solid book ; 9.60 X 6.80 X 1.20 inches; 328 pages; " Hartland Molson's life spanned almost a century that included two world wars, Prohibition, the Depression, major political upheaval, and massive social and industrial change. Born in 1907 to great wealth and privilege, he used his numerous talents wisely and lived his life with integrity. A vigorous and active entrepreneur, he was intimately connected to key events in Canada's history: At age 26, he became president of Dominion Skyways, an airline he founded to transport miners and prospectors to remote northern regions. In 1939, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and flew more than 60 combat missions during the Battle of Britain, for which he received the Order of the British Empire. After the war he returned to the family brewing business, moving up the ranks from vice-president to director. In 1955 he was called to the Canadian Senate, where he served as an independent for the next 38 years. An avid hockey fan, in 1957 he bought the Montreal Canadiens; his teams won five consecutive Stanley Cups. In 1958, he and his brother formed the Molson Foundation, an organization set up to support "innovative projects in the fields of health and welfare, education and social development, and the humanities."".
