Aircrash Detective: the Quest for Aviation Safety: An International Report
Hamish Hamilton, London, 1969. First Edition, Hardcover (Original Cloth). Very Good Condition/No Dust Jacket. 9780241015087 The aim of this book is to show how investigators of aircraft accidents work, and how they contribute to the present high level of aviation safety. Therefore the cases which are mentioned briefly or dealt with in detail have been selected merely to serve the above purpose as representative examples of various aspects of investigation. It is meant to imply no criticism of performance that mishaps of some airlines, aircraft types or countries have more frequently been referred to than those of others. This is in no way to compare their safety for, in fact, some of the more notorious ones may have not even been mentioned while the frank and open cooperation of some of the best helped greatly to produce the most revealing examples. Size: Octavo (standard book size). 376 pages. slight mark to outer edges of pages - not visible internally. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact. Action Stations 1: Wartime Military Airfields of East Anglia 1939-1945
Patrick Stephens Limited, Wellingborough, Northants. 1979. Reprint, Hardcover (Original Cloth). Very Good Condition/No Dust Jacket. 9780850593358 B/w. photo. endpapers. No area of the British Isles has seen as much air activity as East Anglia. Almost since the birth of flying there has been something in the air over the eastern counties. With so much flat land strategically placed it is little wonder that the region has contained more airfields than any other of comparable size. Indeed, at one time airfield circuits were so close that some overlapped. Within the five counties there were well over lOO airfields at the peak of activity in the 1939-1945 war. From them was woven a story unparalleled in the history of military aviation. This book sets out to record concisely the activity that took place from these airfields and outline the squadrons and units which flew from them, the whole punctuated by some personal memories. It does not set out to be a catalogue of runway lengths or hangar sizes; more is it concerned with what took place and from where, especially during the busy wartime days. Then, as many as 5,000 flights were being made daily over East Anglia. Size: Octavo (standard book size). 232 pages. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact. Previous owner's inscription at top of title page. Gilt titles spine. dark green cloth. illustrated by b/w. drawings, maps & photo's.. Includes index of Units referred to in the text. Sims, C. A., British Aviation Illustrated: With references to International Aviation (With Seventy Illustrations in Photogravure)
Sims, C. A.
British Aviation Illustrated: With references to International Aviation (With Seventy Illustrations in Photogravure)
A & C Black, London, 1932. First Edition, Hardcover (Original Cloth). Good Condition/No Dust Jacket. Frontis. illustration, titles, contents list & list of illustrations to front. Published in 1932 the author writes: “When one comes to consider it, there is something rather marvellous in the manner in which flying has become such a commonplace thing with its comparatively short, practical, history of only thirty years or so. With the progress that has now been made, it seems almost incredible that at the beginning of the century no such thing as a flying machine was in existence and that anyone who ventured to talk of aeronautics was taken as seriously as we might take suggestions for inter-planetary travel. Yet, to-day we have aircraft travelling at a speed of nearly four hundred miles an hour, crossing vast oceans like the Atlantic and bringing Australia within something like a week's distance from Great Britain. Most wonderful of all, though less spectacular, great air liners, carrying many passengers and much freight, come and go in all kinds of weather, maintaining an up-to-the-minute schedule between nearly all the world's large towns and spanning every continent. Truly a remarkable achievement.” Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. 95 pages. minor marking to rear cover. Spine browned with age. Bookseller's small label inside front cover. Black titles spine. blue cloth with black outer border line to front cover; illustrated by 70 sepia photo's.. Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: Under 500 grams.
