"Morton M. Grodzins (11 August 1917 – 7 March 1964) was a professor of political science at the University of Chicago, as well as a dean of the school and an editor at Chicago University Press. He is known for coining the term "tipping point" in studies of white flight, such as "Metropolitan Segregation" (1957) and The Metropolitan Area as a Racial Problem (1958). His theories related to Tipping Point were later made famous by Malcolm Gladwell and his book, "The Tipping Point." His book Americans Betrayed (1949) was the first major study criticizing the Japanese-American internment during World War II. His book Making un-Americans (1955) looked at Cold War paranoia in a critical light. Owing to his concern about the threat of nuclear war, he played a leading role in the Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs. He also wrote major studies of American federalism, in which he criticized the idea that the federal, state, and local governments operated distinctly from one another. He argued that the governments resembled a marble cake where the different flavors blended together rather than remaining in layers. This concept of cooperative federalism was distinct from dual federalism. " (from Wikipedia). Near Fine in Very Good+ dust jacket .

"In 1945, Igor Gouzenko, a Russian cipher clerk working in the miliary intelligence branch of the Soviet Embassy in Ottawa, defected to the West. He took with him over one hundred top secret documents that revealed a spy network in North America, a network that had supplied the Soviet Union with the secrets of the atom bomb." "Gouzenko exposed Joseph Stalin's efforts to steal nuclear secrets, and the technique of planting sleeper agents. The "Gouzenko Affair" is often credited as a triggering event of the Cold War, with historian Jack Granatstein stating "Gouzenko was the beginning of the Cold War for public opinion" and journalist Robert Fulford writing "I am absolutely certain the Cold War began in Ottawa". LIFTON, ROBERT JAY AND GREG MITCHELL
Hiroshima in America Fifty Years of Denial
New York, NY: G. P. Putnam's Sons / Grosset Putnam, 1995. 1st Edition; 1st Printing. Hardcover. ISBN: 0399140727. This book is in Near Fine condition and has a Very Good+ dust jacket. The dust jacket is crisp and clean with the exception of some tiny faults to the laminate on the front panel along with a couple of small spots of rubbing to the spine ends and edges. "His studies of the behavior of people who had committed war crimes, both individually and in groups, concluded that while human nature is not innately cruel and only rare sociopaths can participate in atrocities without suffering lasting emotional harm, such crimes do not require any unusual degree of personal evil or mental illness. He says that they are nearly sure to happen given certain conditions (either accidental or deliberately arranged) , which Lifton called "atrocity-producing situations". The Nazi Doctors was the first in-depth study of how medical professionals rationalized their participation in the Holocaust, from the early stages of the T-4 Euthanasia Program to the extermination camps. In the Hiroshima and Vietnam studies, Lifton also concluded that the sense of personal disintegration that many people experienced after witnessing death and destruction on a mass scale could ultimately lead to a new emotional resilience—but that without the proper support and counseling, most survivors would remain trapped in feelings of unreality and guilt. In her 2005 autobiography My Life So Far, Jane Fonda described Lifton's work with Vietnam veterans, along with that of fellow psychiatrists Leonard Neff, Chaim Shatan, and Sarah Haley, as "tireless and empathetic". TUGWELL, REXFORD GUY, A Chronicle of Jeopardy 1945-1955

A Chronicle of Jeopardy 1945-1955
Chicago, IL: University of Chicago Press, 1955. 1st Edition; 1st Printing. Hardcover. This book is in Very Good condition and has a Very Good- dust jacket. The book and its contents are in generally clean, bright condition. There is some bumping to the spine ends of the book cover. The text pages are clean and bright. The dust jacket has several edge tears , nicks and rubbed spots and noticeable toning and fading to the spine, spine ends and edges of the panels. "Rexford Guy Tugwell (July 10, 1891 – July 21, 1979) was an American economist who became part of Franklin D. Roosevelt's first "Brain Trust", a group of Columbia University academics who helped develop policy recommendations leading up to Roosevelt's New Deal. Tugwell served in FDR's administration until he was forced out in 1936. He was a specialist on planning and believed the government should have large-scale plans to move the economy out of the Great Depression because private businesses were too frozen in place to do the job. He helped design the New Deal farm program and the Resettlement Administration that moved subsistence farmers into small rented farms under close supervision. His ideas on suburban planning resulted in the construction of Greenbelt, Maryland, with low-cost rents for relief families. He was denounced by conservatives for advocating state-directed economic planning to overcome the Great Depression. " (from Wikipedia). Very Good in Very Good- dust jacket .
