Fourth edition, completing twenty fifth thousand. In a handsome full morocco binding by George Robertson, with binder's stamp to front pastedown. With a folding map of East Central Africa and nine monochrome illustrations as called for. Lacking publisher's advertisements. Henry Drummond was a Scottish evangelist, biologist, writer and lecturer. Drummond took up a position with the African Lakes Corporation, which was set up by Scottish businessmen to cooperate with Presbyterian missions in Malawi. The company had commercial and political ambitions including a number of general stores and the transportation of water transport from the lakes and rivers. Tropical Africa is an account of Drummond's time in Africa and includes discussion regarding his work for the African Lakes Corporation as well as political, geographical and medical aspects of the country. In a full morocco binding. Externally very smart with slight rubbing to the extremities and the joints. A few light marks to the boards. Prize bookplate from Wesley College, Melbourne to front pastedown. Internally firmly bound. Pages bright and clean with the odd spot and handling marks. Dugmore, American naturalist and wildlife photographer. An account of two African trips recounting of the author's experiences and the hunting of big game through Kenya and Tanganyika. Illustrated with fifty-eight full page plates, including a map, eight monochrome reproductions of paintings are by the author. Collated, lacking a plate with two illustrations of zebras.  From the library at Julian Park, Hertfordshire, belonging to Audrey Pleydell-Bouverie. Audrey was the youngest daughter of an Anglo-American lumber and steel millionaire, sister to Edward James, a key figure in the Surrealist movement, and the illegitimate granddaughter of King Edward VII. She was an English socialite known for her beauty and for charming various wealthy men, she was included in The Book of Beauty by Cecil Beaton. A patron of the arts, she assisted Viscount Carlow financially in the publication of limited editions of numerous works by leading literary figures such as T E Lawrence, James Joyce, Wyndham Lewis, and others. A hedonistic pursuer, she was recognised as one of the 'Bright Young Things&apos.  In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally sound with minor shelf wear and bumping and chipping to the head and tail of the spine, some soiling to the boards and a minor damp marking to the front board. The cloth is slightly cockled to the front board possibly due to slight damp. Internally, the front hinge is slightly loose to the title page, holding firm.
