Inscribed freely in pencil in his nearly-blind handwriting on the front free endpaper to his close friends Morris and Margaret Ernst: "Happy Yule to Morris and Margaret / Jim and Helen". (Helen is Thurber's second wife). A fine copy. Quarter cloth over decorated blue boards in a near fine dustwrapper showing light use with a few small stains & very minor loss at the spine heel. A very nice example. James Grover Thurber [1894 - 1961]. American author, cartoonist & celebrated wit best known for his cartoons & short stories, published mainly in The New Yorker then collected in his numerous books. One of the most popular humorists of his time, Thurber celebrated the comic frustrations & eccentricities of ordinary people.
