The edges of the soiled covers are heavily creased with a couple of short tears to the top edge of the rear cover. The spine is rubbed with minor chipping to the head of the spine. 138 pages, with numerous color and black & white illustrations & pictorial ads, including works by Henry Raleigh, Sid L. Hydeman, Jack Sheridan, and others. There is a vertical crease to the front cover. Many of the pages are darkened. Good. The first appearance of F. Scott Fitzgerald's short story "Six of One-" [Ref: Bruccoli C-224], here illustrated by Jack Sheridan. The story was not published in book form until 1979 [Bruccoli A-40]. In "The Price Was High: The Last Uncollected Stories of F. Scott Fitzgerald", edited by Bruccoli and published in 1979, Bruccoli writes of the story that "it is an indirect response to the Depression in that it excoriates 'all that waste at the top' and expresses confidence in the Alger types. This story is one of Fitzgerald's rare expressions of open hostility toward the rich, mixed with a sense of regret that seriousness and privilege or ambition and glamour do not often inhabit the same skin .. the story is obviously not a call to class warfare, for Fitzgerald was keenly sensitive to the attractions of the aristocracy." Also worth noting is Charu Sinha's interview with Mahatma Gandhi. Among the other contributions are Philip Wylie's "Henry's Emotional Outlet" and MacKinlay Kantor's "The Band Plays Dixie", illustrated by Austin E. Briggs. Good .
