Hegels hoofdwerk uit 1807 is nu eindelijk integraal beschikbaar in eenuitmuntende vertaling. Het boek is bewierookt en vervloekt, maar niemand betwist dat heteen van de belangrijkste werken is in de westerse filosofie. De Fenomenologie van de geest probeert de geschiedenis van de mensheid opnieuw te denken, inhet licht van Kants grensverleggende kritiek van de rede uit 1781. Hegel beschrijft de verschillendestadia van de 'geest', beginnende bij de onmiddellijke waarneming en eindigend bij het absoluteweten. Hegels geest heeft niets met esoterie, theologie of mystiek van doen, maar is de 'gedaante'waarin de mens overgaat wanneer hij zichzelf overstijgt in het geheel van wereldgeschiedenisen van een enkel- en eenvoudig wezen overgaat in een universele, abstracte, het individuoverstijgende dynamiek. Vaak ziet men in Hegel een megalomaan denker, die alles wil vattenin een star systeem. Recente interpretaties wijzen echter op de meer open en revolutionairestructuur van de Fenomenologie en stellen dat het boek de mens juist bescheiden stemt over zijnrol en betekenis. De schaduw van invloed, afkeer en ontzag die Hegels Fenomenologie van de geestwerpt over de denkers die na hem komen is immens. Vorig jaar nog publiceerde Slavoj iek eenmeer dan duizend pagina's tellende bewonderende studie over deze grote wijsgeer. Hegels complexe Duits is nu voor het eerst volledig toegankelijk in helder Nederlands. Eindelijkkan de lezer in de eigen taal een oordeel vormen over dit veel bediscussieerde meesterwerk. From the library of Dr. Clemens E. Benda, the authority on Down syndrome, with a postmarked stamped envelope addressed to him laid into the book. Clemens has additionally underlined and emphasized paragraphs with marginal pencil marks throughout the chapter titled "Der Geist des Christentums und sein Schicksal" (The Spirit of Christianity and its Fate). Considered the authority on Down syndrome, which was then referred to as "Mongolism", Dr. Clemens E. Benda (1898-1975) was recognized as an internationally known expert on "mental deficiency". Benda argued for an end to "artificial distinctions between mental defect and mental illness" and believed that "so-called mentally deficient children are often the victims of unfair and unjust discrimination". Born in Berlin where he received his medical degree, Benda worked as a psychiatrist at the Binswanger Sanitarium in Switzerland. He moved to the U.S. as a research fellow at Harvard Medical School, eventually teaching at both Harvard and the University of Munich. Benda was also director of research and psychiatry for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the Walter E. Fernald School, and the Wrentham State School in Massachusetts. Good .
