Fine full russet leather binding, in the style of Bayntun [and probably is, though we find no binder stamp], with title gilt tooled in second compartment, author in 3rd compartment, 5 raised bands with elaborate gilt tooling in other compartments. AEG. Marbled eps. xvi, 624 pp. Frontis & 39 plates by Hablot K. Browne (Phiz). Extra-illustrated with 38 plates by Onwhyn, dated 1838 - 1839. 8vo. 8-1/4" x 5-3/8". Binding shows just a touch of wear at the extremities. A lovely Nr Fine copy. The Onwhyn plates are somewhat uncommon. published by Grattan [& Gilbert], who initially announced 10 parts, though only 9 were published, for a total of 40 images. NB. Gimble had only 11.
