Plain endpapers. In very good condition. Some minor rubbing and handling to boards; corners bumped etc. Contemporary/later endpapers. Some minor darkening to frontis plate & surrounding pages. Neat inscriptiuon to top of title page “Arnold, 1847,” with a handwritten passage rom “D’Israeli” to rear of title page. Inside pages all very clean and tight. Else a very clean and tight copy. 743pp + advert page. With b&w engraved frontispeice. Presented as a medical textbook on Melancholia, or clinical depression, the book in fact covers a wide range of subjects, such as digestion, goblins, the geography of America, and more. Much of the book consists of quotations from various ancient and medieval medical authorities, and the Anatomy is filled with more or less pertinent references to the works of others, with many quotes, often in the original language.
