A collection of folklore from Santal Parganas, a district in India, with the Santal tribe being one of the largest tribal groups of Jharkhand, also being spread out to various other parts of India. Included in this volume is 'The Cruel Stepmother', 'How the Cowherd Found a Bride', 'The Killing of the Tiger', 'The Rajah's Advice', 'The Caterpillar Boy', 'Catching a Thief', 'The Hyena Outwitted', 'The Bonga Exorcised', 'The Influence of the Moon', and many more&apos. Translated into English by Cecil Henry Bompas. Bompas was an orientalist, being an officer in the Indian Civil Service during the British rule of India. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, generally smart, with some rubbing to the boards and spine causing a little discolouration. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Written by British screenwriter, editor and novelist, Cecil Henry Bullivant, who was particularly known for his Lost Race adventure fiction works. In his later years, Bullivant turned to romantic fiction, producing novels including 'Whose Wife?', 'The Woman Wins' and this novel, 'The Wife Whom God Forgot&apos.In this thought-provoking and emotional novel, Bullivant delicately approaches the subject of divorce, published at a time where this was not the societal norm and was often frowned upon. With the original advertising leaf from Odhams Limited, with information surrounding the author and novel, loosely inserted. Bound in the publisher's original red cloth, with the unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, very good, with light bumping to the extremities and the odd mark. Light cockling to the cloth, with a little fading to the spine and extremities. Author's ink inscription to the front endpaper. Dust wrapper is worn, with significant loss to the tail of the spine and head of the rear panel. Tear across the rear panel, resulting in the wrap being in two separate pieces. Light edge wear and small closed tears to flyleaves, with the odd mark. Internally, firmly bound, with bright, clean pages. Very Good . Ill.: None. Very Good/Fair.
