New York, New York Times, 1862. First Edition. 0 pp. Disbound. Complete, original disbound newspaper in near fine condition. A corner crease that has begun to tear along the crease line. Ellet's letter to the editor of the Times and the publication of his earlier letter to the Times on the enemy's position at Manassas and the efficacy of a Union attack is published immediately following the current letter. Ellet was one of the major public works engineers in the United States during the mid-nineteenth century and a critic of McClellan's handling of the Army of the Potomac. At the time of this issue of the Times, Ellet was in charge of developing a fleet of vessels designed to take control of the Mississippi River and hold it for the Union forces. He died from from wounds suffered in June, 1862. Fine.
