DICKENS, CHARLES - Dombey and Son
London: Chapman and Hall. Hardcover. Later edition, in one volume, of one of Mr. Dickens' most-loved works. Formerly property of a library, the sole indicator of which is an accession slip pasted to the front pastedown. In the so-called 'Charles Dickens Edition' with full green cloth-covered boards with black decorations and lettering, titling on spine in gilt. Interior bears 8 b&w engravings by 'Phiz' (pseudonym of Hablot Knight Browne). Volume is slightly loose but intact, with rubbed cover extremities (especially at spine ends). Interior with much foxing; prev. owner's penciling at front free endpaper. Undated edition, but likely published ca 1860-1880. --- Dombey and Son was first published in serial form in 1846-48. A very convoluted story, but centered around the wealthy Mr. Dombey and the raising of his heir. ; Ex-Library; 12mo 7" - 7½" tall; 543 pages. Good with no dust jacket .
