Studied law. Awarded the Clifford's Inn prize. Began to collect coins from c.1878. Member of the Numismatic Society from 1882. Purchased important coin collections from Addington (English coins), 1883; William Brice of Clifton, 1887; M. Hoffman, dealer in Paris (Greek coins); Vicomte Ponton d'Amecourt (Roman coins); Marsham (English coins). Sold his collection of English coins from George I to Victoria in 1891 (Spink & Sons sale). Montagu Collection. The British Museum purchased coins from the sale of the Montagu collection in 1896-97 (including coins from the sale by Feuardent, Paris 20 April 1896).
