Van Dyke was the US Minister to the Netherlands and Luxembourg between 1913 and 1916.Miss Rix seems to have been known to him during that period. Cover design by Margaret Armstrong. Dark blue clean covers with ornate decoration and lettering in gilt and blue and orange. Black and white frontis with protective tissue leaf, all additional 5 plates are present. Lightly rubbed corners, sound binding except that front end-paper has been removed by a neat cut, clean pages and plates. Contains colour frontis and colour plates (full page illustrations).
