Sewn with a contemporary, rather worn stipple-marbled cover. (4), 140 p. Uncut. With one carelessly printed image opposite p. 8. 1st edition. Some paper stains here and there. Tear in the margin of p. 8. The very simple, threadbare cover houses a curious 'gothic novel' about the notorious Parisian city prison La Conciergerie, followed by poetry that recalls the traumatic times of the Terror by Robespierre. Mercier de Compiègne (1763-1800) was a prolific writer, specializing in erotica.
