1748, 1st Edition. Hardcover. Book, First edn, London, Davis et al, 1748. 8vo, xxiv, 295p. Six engraved plates. Contemporary full calf rebacked, gilt label and gilt bands. Slight wear, some browning, else VG. Brownrigg engaged in a range of scientific enquiries with practical import. His illustrated book covers both processes and economics, and calls on government to build and manage salt works and to regulate salt quality. An abridgement was published in the Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society and an edition came out in the American colonies in 1776.& ODNB. Brownrigg's chemical researches in many ways paralleled those of Priestley, Cavendish, and Black and he came very near to being a chemical discoverer of the first rank. According to the Bowyer ledgers 500 copies were printed. Duveen, p. 104 ;A valuable book.& Partington, III, pp. 124-27. Scarce. Very Good.
