He was such a famous botanist that Linnaeus dedicated to him a plant species.He travelled all over Europe making observations of great scientific interest. In Germany he was nicknamed, the "Plinio of our century", and he can e considered as one of the promoters of the development of Europeanbotanical science. He died in the 1704 leaving a large patrimony of ideas, studies and naturalistic researches for the future generations.
