It is not just an economic history of the bank, but an account of the people involved and places connected with it from its beginnings in 16th century London and Liverpool, its development, expansion, and position 400 years later. This history also includes the partnerships & families who started small country banks in the provinces, takeovers, failures, bankruptcies, forgers, the effects of wars & revolutions. The history of banks in the north, such as Kendal, Ulverston, Halifax, Mirfield, Dewsbury, Carlisle, Bury, Preston, Alnwick, & Manchester. 608 pages including index, with 15 colour and 95 b.& w. photographs, engravings, pictures & maps. Near fine binding. Black d./w. is near fine except for slight wear at top & bottom of spine, and along edges.
