Ex libris: Daniel de Bruin.l Philipp Jakob Spener (1635 - 1705) was a German Christian theologist known as the "Father of Pietism". Pietism is similar to puritanism and existed within the Lutheran faith. In Berlin Spener was held in high honour, but he increasingly became a subject of hostile criticism. Spener was also known as a heraldic expert.
