First edition of this famous account of the gorilla ("the monstrous and ferocious ape"). Paul Du Chaillu spent four years (1856-59) on his first expedition into Central Africa, to an area previously unexplored by Europeans. He made several important discoveries regarding the rivers of the region, the natives and unusual animals and fauna. He collected a vast number of specimens of birds, animals and fauna.
