Inscription on fep "Description of Above 300 Hundred Animals, Edinburgh 1787, possibly written after loss of title page. In the preface the author describes this as his second collection of Animals and Vegetables etc, written in response to the favourable reception of his first essay of this kind. A fascinating collection of descriptions and plates covering a wide variety of natural subjects, from tropical fish in the Bahamas, the Jacobine Pigeon and the Mermaid. Also includes a supplement on the Indian Lanthorn Fly, Glow Worm, and Ignis Fatuus.. Worn condition. Page corners curled. Contents with varying degrees of thumbing foxing and some water staining, but content and plates in overall good condition .
