ECCLESTONE, A.W. - Henry Manship's Great Yarmouth.
Gret Yarmouth: A.W. Ecclestone, 1971. 1st edition. Privately published (with list of subscribers). Henry Manship 1555-1625. "Written in the first person in a highly individual style that creates in the reader's mind a clear impression of a man who must have been a great 'character' in his day. He was outspoken and critical in a way that makes it easy to understand why he was constantly in trouble with 'authority'. He deplores the neglect of the worthy deeds of the Town which for more than 300 years past had, according to him, been recorded annually." Pp.110, 4 illustrations + folding perspective drawing of Yarmouth 1588 from the Marquess of Salisbury's collection. Dark red cloth, gilt title to front and spine. VG.
