An anonymous novel published in the North on the eve of the Civil War, satirizing a New England abolitionist clergyman and depicting the dire consequences of his harboring a fugitive slave. This was one of several novels written in reaction to Uncle Tom's Cabin. The frontis. and some of the text illustrations mockingly depict the fugitive. .
