Library stamp (Univ. Vienna) on last two leaves. Provenance: Theodor Karajan (armorial bookplate). Copy of Ericsberg castle, Sweden. First edition of the first significant dictionary of ancient geography. Contains an alphabetical list of Latin place names with their locations. At end "Elenchus vocabulorum" which is a list of names in the vernacular with Latin forms. Abraham Ortelius (1527-98) was a Flemish cartographer and dealer mainly known as the author of the first modern atlas "Theatrum orbis terrarum" (1570) which was reprinted many times. In 1575 he was appointed geographer to Philip ii, the king of Spain.
