[BEARD, M.A.] - [WATERCOLOUR WOMAN PORTRAIT WITH CUT OUT CARDS]. : A charming set of transformation cards. No place but probably Britain, 1855.

. A watercolour portrait of a young woman together with six cut-out cards in watercolour depicting different costumes to dress the woman. Size: 11.5 x 13 cm. Some slight age toning to the paper and a few minor spots but overall in very good condition. Housed in a modern paper folder. There are two contemporary signatures on the verso of the portrait: E.M. Gulland 1855 (the woman?) and M.A. Beard (the artist?). Five of the six cut-out cards have contemporary annotations on the back: Gypsy, Roman Peasant, Aragon, Swiss and Turkish respectively. The card without annotation depicts a queen with a crown (perhaps Mary Stuart?).
